Best Virtual Estimate Software for Painters (2026): Top 8

14 min read

The best virtual estimate software for painting contractors in 2026 is QuoteIQ, and I should say up front that I co-founded it, so weigh my pick accordingly. It's the only tool here that covers the whole remote chain on one login: AI estimates from up to five job photos, satellite measuring, a form customers use to price their own job, and e-signature approval (which plan unlocks which piece is in its entry below). The reason to care is mileage: a 25-mile round trip to price one job is $19 of deductible driving at the IRS's 76-cent business rate for the second half of 2026, before the hour it takes.

TL;DR

  • QuoteIQ — AI estimates from photos on every plan from $29.99/month; satellite measuring and e-signatures from Beginner ($99.99); a customer self-quote form on Elite ($299.99).

  • Virtual Bid — live video walkthroughs quoted on the call, $29.99/month for 20 walkthroughs.

  • Jobber — online booking with photo uploads and quotes with photos, $49 to $499/month.

  • PaintScout — painter-built presentations with e-sign, from $119/month; it closes remotely but captures the job on site.

  • Hover — phone scans that become 3D models and measurements, billed per scan; not painter-specific.

  • DripJobs, Housecall Pro, LiveSwitch — narrower slices: proposals and deposits, text-or-email quotes, video only.

How I Picked These

I'm Mike Vidan. I own a pressure washing business and I co-founded QuoteIQ, which is why it sits at number one on a list I wrote. I haven't run a paint crew, and I haven't used the other seven tools in the field. What I say about them comes from each vendor's own published pages, read in October 2026, and I note it where a page didn't answer something. I ranked each tool on how much of a remote quote it covers: capturing the job from a distance (photos, video, a scan or a satellite measurement), turning that into a price, and getting a signature without a second visit. A tool that does one of those well still ranks below one that does two. Prices are the standard monthly figures on each pricing page, not annual-prepaid or promotional rates, and where a vendor publishes no price I say so. The three reviewers quoted below use QuoteIQ for other trades, and I flag that where they appear.

1. QuoteIQ — Best Overall for Virtual Painting Estimates

What it is

QuoteIQ is the field service platform I co-founded, and for remote quoting it gives a painter four pieces. The AI Estimator takes a typed or spoken description plus up to five photos, asks five follow-up questions, and returns a line-item estimate with a High or Medium confidence score on each line. QuoteIQ lists painting as a supported trade, with interior or exterior, prep level and number of coats feeding the price. MapMeasure Pro measures from satellite imagery. InstaQuote is a form for your website, a link or a QR code where the customer picks services, answers your questions, confirms the address, can draw the area on a map, attaches up to six photos and sees a price. Each submission becomes an estimate in your account, and e-signatures close it.

Pricing

Checked October 2026 on the pricing page, dated September 15, 2026: Essentials is $29.99/month for 1 user, Beginner $99.99 for 2, Pro $199.99 for 4, Elite $299.99 for 10 and Max $699.99 for 20. Extra users are $25 a month, and every plan starts with a 14-day trial. The AI Estimator is on every plan and draws on a monthly pool of IQ Credits shared with QuoteIQ's other AI tools (500 on Essentials); each estimate uses roughly 5 to 15. MapMeasure Pro, QuoteIQ Cam and e-signatures start at Beginner, and InstaQuote starts at Elite. You can watch the demo before you pick a tier.

Where it fits

A solo painter or small crew that wants to price from photos and a satellite look before rolling a truck, then send the estimate, collect the signature and invoice from the same place. My AI estimating roundup for painters goes deeper on that feature.

Tradeoffs

There is no live video walkthrough, so to talk a customer through the house on camera you'd want Virtual Bid or LiveSwitch below. MapMeasure Pro's page names roofs, lawns, driveways, fences, gutters and edging, not exterior wall area, so on a repaint you still enter wall measurements yourself. The self-quote form needs Elite at $299.99. And QuoteIQ's own page says an AI estimate is only as good as what you feed it, that Medium-confidence lines deserve a second look, and that lead-safe work on pre-1978 homes has to be named in your description. Its speed claims are QuoteIQ's own.

2. Virtual Bid — Best for Live Video Walkthroughs

What it is

Virtual Bid is built around the video call. You text or email the customer a link, they join with no app download or signup, you walk the job together, quote it in real time and book it on the same call. A desktop dashboard called CleanQuote tracks quotes, jobs and revenue. The site lists painting among the trades it serves, and the App Store listing names painters as intended users.

Pricing

Checked October 2026 on the pricing page: $29.99 a month for 20 walkthroughs, the plan it labels most popular. A second plan is listed at $49.99 for unlimited walkthroughs and the dashboard, with no billing period shown next to it. I saw no trial mentioned, and its FAQ says you can cancel anytime with no fees. The App Store listing shows different in-app prices, from $9.99 to $99.99, so confirm what you'd actually be billed.

Where it fits

Painters who sell well in conversation and want to quote a high-ticket interior while the customer is still on the line. It's the closest thing here to a purpose-built virtual estimate.

Tradeoffs

The base plan caps you at 20 walkthroughs a month, and the pages I read don't mention photo capture, measuring tools or e-signature. A live call is also still an appointment, so the customer has to be free when you are. For questions about the Teams plan, start with its contact page and terms.

3. Jobber — Best for Online Booking With Photos

What it is

Jobber is a general field service platform. Its painting contractor page lists quotes with job photos, optional line items customers can pick, automatic follow-ups, a Client Hub where customers approve quotes, and an online request form for your website. A January 2024 product update says clients can attach up to four images when they book online, and those show up as a note on the visit.

Pricing

Checked October 2026 on the pricing page, monthly with no commitment: Core $49 (1 user), Connect $139 for 1 user or $199 for 5, Grow $199 for 1 or $299 for 5, and Plus $499 for 5. Extra users are $29 a month, and annual prepaid prices are lower. The trial is 14 days with full Grow access.

Where it fits

A painter who wants a general backbone (booking, quotes, follow-up, payments) and gets requests that arrive with a few photos.

Tradeoffs

Jobber has no measuring tool and no video walkthrough in anything I read. The image upload is capped at four per booking and, per the update, sits on Connect and Grow, while the pricing page puts quotes with rich visuals on Grow and Plus, so Grow at $199 for one user is where both meet. Its online booking page and quote request page describe booking, and I couldn't confirm a separate photo-submission flow.

4. PaintScout — Best for Painter-Built Presentations

What it is

PaintScout makes estimating and sales software for painters. You build the estimate from production rates and room dimensions, attach phone photos and video to line items, and send a branded presentation by email or text. Per its estimating page, customers can chat, pick upgrades and sign from any device, and you get alerts when it's opened, viewed or signed, with automatic follow-ups after that.

Pricing

Checked October 2026 on the pricing page: Sales is $119 a month on monthly billing ($99 on annual) and the Operations add-on is $99 a month ($79 on annual). Extra seats are $20 per user per month, and there is a 14-day free trial.

Where it fits

A painter who still visits the house but wants to close the sale remotely and look polished doing it. My PaintScout vs QuoteIQ comparison lays out the head-to-head.

Tradeoffs

This is remote delivery, not remote capture. The Sales page describes photos taken on site and doesn't describe an online estimate request form or customer-uploaded photos. At $119 for Sales alone, it costs about four times QuoteIQ's $29.99 entry price. Its help center explains what's in each product area.

5. Hover — Best for Measuring an Exterior From a Scan

What it is

Hover turns a phone scan of a property into a 3D model with measurements. Its measurements page cites roof and siding measurements and says an exterior scan takes about five minutes, which is Hover's own claim. Its interiors product scans rooms with a phone, no LiDAR needed, and adds a remote 360° walkthrough. Starter includes invite-to-scan, so the homeowner can do the capture.

Pricing

Checked October 2026 on the pricing page: Starter is pay-per-project with no subscription, and the first three projects are free. Exteriors run $59 (up to 4 facets) to $139 (9 or more), and an interior is $59 (201 to 600 square feet) or $89 above that. Estimates are not in Starter; Pro is $999 a year and adds them, and Business is $2,999 a year. Its FAQ says interior scans start at $29, which doesn't match its own table.

Where it fits

Exterior repaints where wall area is the unknown, and shops that price many homes a week and want a measurement before anyone drives out.

Tradeoffs

None of the Hover pages I read mention painting. The measurement page names roof and siding, not wall area as a painter would price it, and I couldn't confirm what a homeowner-run scan yields. Every lead costs a scan fee. Hover's estimates product is general-purpose too: the pricing page describes material lists with waste and coverage, not paint-specific ones.

6. DripJobs — Best for Closing With Deposits

What it is

DripJobs is a CRM for painters, and its painting CRM page is titled "Built by a Painter, for Painters." Proposals and e-signatures start on its entry plan. The customer portal lets customers view proposals, approve estimates, pay and track the project, and its estimating guide says you can build, send and close a quote from your phone, collecting the signature and deposit at the customer's home. Drip campaigns follow up on unsigned proposals.

Pricing

Checked October 2026 on the pricing page: Pro is $97 a month with 1 admin user, Advanced is $147, and Growth is custom for 5 or more users. Add-ons run $25 for Chat, $99 for Production Rates and $49 for Job Costing. There is no free trial, and plans are month-to-month.

Where it fits

A painter whose problem is leads going cold after the quote, not capturing the job. My DripJobs vs QuoteIQ comparison covers where each one wins.

Tradeoffs

The pages I read don't mention virtual estimates, customer self-quoting or instant quotes by name, and online booking is linked in the footer without a plan named. The production-rates estimating engine is a $99 add-on, and there's no trial to test it. DripJobs publishes its own comparison against QuoteIQ if you want their side.

7. Housecall Pro — Best for Multi-Trade Shops

What it is

Housecall Pro sends quotes and proposals by text or email, and its estimating software page is where that lives. Its online booking lets customers pick services with pricing that updates, see real open time slots and leave a deposit, and the customer portal handles payments and job details. The Max plan adds a sales proposal tool with customized images.

Pricing

Checked October 2026 on the pricing page, month-to-month: Basic is $79 (1 user), Essentials $189 (5 users) and Max $329 (8 users), with extra Max users at $35. The 14-day trial gives full Max access.

Where it fits

A painting company that also does other service work, or one that already runs Housecall Pro for another business.

Tradeoffs

The booking page doesn't mention requesting estimates or customers uploading photos, and I found no measuring tool or video walkthrough. I couldn't load its painting industry page, so this entry rests on the pricing and booking pages only.

8. LiveSwitch — Best for Video-Only Estimating

What it is

LiveSwitch runs live video calls, or videos a customer records on request, from a text link with no apps or downloads required. Its virtual estimates page says this saves drive time, pre-qualifies leads and leaves a visual record. The examples on that page are moving, sod, window cleaning, landscaping, electrical and cleaning, not painting, and its customer stories are the place to check for more.

Pricing

Checked October 2026, the pricing page shows Monthly and Annual options with no prices on either, so there is no published price. It offers a free trial and a demo booking.

Where it fits

A shop that wants video estimating across several job types and already prices in a spreadsheet or another app.

Tradeoffs

It's video only: I found no quote builder, estimate or e-signature on the pages I read. With no price shown, you're asking for a quote before you can compare it.

What Operators Say

None of the three reviewers in this post is a painter. All three do pressure washing, and one adds lawn care. I'm quoting them on speed and quoting, not painting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is virtual estimate software for painting contractors?

It's software that lets you price a paint job before you stand in the house. The customer shows you the job by video call, photos, a phone scan of the home or a form on your website, and the software turns that into a priced estimate you can send and have signed. Some tools cover one piece, like Virtual Bid for live video or Hover for exterior scans. Others cover more of the chain. QuoteIQ takes photos and a satellite measurement and returns a line-item estimate, and PaintScout sends and closes an estimate remotely. Which kind you need depends on whether your delay is capturing the job, pricing it or getting it signed.

Can you give an accurate painting estimate without visiting the house?

Often you can get close, but not always exact. A straightforward interior repaint with clear photos and a few measurements prices well from a distance. An exterior, a ceiling repair or a prep-heavy job is harder. QuoteIQ's own AI Estimator page says an estimate is only as good as what you feed it and that Medium-confidence lines should be checked, and its MapMeasure page says aerial measurements are estimates to confirm on site. A workable routine is to send a remote number as a range, then confirm scope in a short call or visit before the customer signs, so the remote step saves the trip on most jobs without leaving you stuck with a bad price.

How much does virtual estimate software cost?

Prices I read in October 2026, standard monthly: QuoteIQ starts at $29.99, Virtual Bid at $29.99 for 20 walkthroughs, Jobber at $49, Housecall Pro at $79, DripJobs at $97, and PaintScout Sales at $119. Hover bills per scan, with exteriors from $59, or $999 a year for the Pro membership that includes estimates. LiveSwitch publishes no price. Jobber, PaintScout and Housecall Pro all list lower annual-prepaid rates. The lowest tiers usually leave out the pieces that matter for remote quoting: on QuoteIQ, satellite measuring and e-signatures start at Beginner and the self-quote form at Elite, so price the plan with the features you actually need.

Do customers need to download an app for a video walkthrough?

Not on the two video tools here. Virtual Bid says the customer joins from a link in a text or email with no app download or signup, and LiveSwitch says its text link needs no apps or downloads. You, the contractor, do use an app: Virtual Bid's is on the App Store and Google Play. Virtual Bid says you can quote and book the job during the same call, so a customer can say yes before they hang up, and LiveSwitch lets a customer record a video on request when schedules don't line up. Before relying on video for every lead, try one call with a customer who isn't tech-savvy. Signal, lighting and a customer who won't walk the house are the usual failure points, not the software.

Can AI estimate a paint job from photos?

It can produce a draft. QuoteIQ's AI Estimator reads up to five photos and your description, asks five follow-up questions about condition, scope and access, and returns line items with a High or Medium confidence score. QuoteIQ says painting estimates can account for interior or exterior, prep level and coats. I co-founded QuoteIQ, so read that as the maker's description and not an outside test: the page offers no outside accuracy data. Treat the output as a first draft, compare it to your own production rates, and edit any price before it goes out. My AI estimating roundup compares the other options.

How much does driving to a painting bid actually cost?

The IRS standard mileage rate for business use is 72.5 cents a mile for January through June 2026 and 76 cents for July 1 through December 31, 2026. At 76 cents, a 25-mile round trip is $19, and ten such bids a week is $190 in deductible mileage before the hour each trip takes. That rate is a tax deduction, not your true cost of fuel, wear and time, so treat the number as a rough floor (the 2025 rate was 70 cents). Multiply by your own average round trip and weekly bid count to get your number. Even so, it shows why a remote first estimate pays back fastest for crews that bid many jobs spread across a wide service area. My painting estimating roundup covers the pricing side.

Which virtual estimate tool works best for a solo painter?

Solo is common in this trade: the Bureau of Labor Statistics counts 326,900 construction and maintenance painters in 2025, and 31% are self-employed. For one person, cost and setup time matter most. QuoteIQ Essentials at $29.99 covers one user with the AI Estimator, though satellite measuring and e-signatures need Beginner at $99.99. Virtual Bid at $29.99 suits a solo painter who sells well on video. The BLS median annual wage for these painters was $49,400 in May 2025, so a $199 plan is a real decision for one person; check which plan holds the feature you're buying it for before you compare monthly prices. My software for solo painters post goes through the one-user math in detail.

Can I try virtual estimate software before paying?

Mostly yes. QuoteIQ gives a 14-day trial on every plan, and a credit or debit card is required to start. PaintScout, Jobber and Housecall Pro each list a 14-day free trial, and Jobber's gives full Grow access while Housecall Pro's gives full Max access. Hover's first three projects are free, and LiveSwitch offers a free trial. DripJobs says it offers no free trial, and I saw none mentioned for Virtual Bid, though its pricing page says you can cancel anytime with no fees. Run your three most typical jobs through any trial before you commit, including one awkward one, since the tool matters most on the jobs that don't fit a template.

Bottom Line

If you want to quote a paint job without leaving the truck, start with photos and a satellite look, then decide whether you need video on top. I put QuoteIQ first because it covers the most of that chain on one bill, and since I co-founded it, watch the demo and judge it against your own jobs. If you sell best on camera, add Virtual Bid; if your pain is looking polished at the close, look at PaintScout. Whichever you try, price your next ten bids both ways and count the trips the remote number saves.
